Rahul Dravid has acknowledged that he will step down from his position as India’s head coach after the T20 World Cup. He will no longer be seen as the ‘head coach’ of Rohit Sharma and his team. Dravid admitted this on Monday before India’s practice session.
It was already known that Dravid would not continue as coach, but this is the first time Dravid himself has confirmed it. Speaking to reporters in New York on Monday about the importance of winning the T20 World Cup, Dravid said, “Every competition is important. Every match in which I have coached India is important to me. Just because this is my last competition doesn’t make this World Cup more important.”
Besides praising the players, Dravid also spoke about his coaching career and why he wants to step down. Dravid said, “I enjoy coaching. I have enjoyed my time as the coach of India. It’s a special kind of job. I also enjoyed working with this team. But given the upcoming schedule and the stage of life I am in, I don’t think I will apply again.”
Dravid further added, “That’s why this is my last competition. But again, I want to emphasize that there are no special feelings. From the first day I started this job, I have considered every match important. I have thought about the outcome of every match. That will never change.
