Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam is often referred to as “King” by fans and the media. However, he recently objected to being called by that title. After leading his team to a record-breaking chase of 353 runs, Babar requested journalists to stop calling him “King” or “Raja.”
He said, “Please don’t call me King. I am not a King. I haven’t reached that level yet. I have a new responsibility on my shoulders now.”
Since 2015, Babar has returned to the role of an opener and wants to focus on this responsibility. Instead of dwelling on past achievements, he emphasized, “Whatever I have done before is now in the past. Every match presents a new challenge, so I need to focus on the present and future.”
However, Babar has yet to find his rhythm in his new role. In the first match of the tri-series against New Zealand, he managed only 10 runs, followed by a score of 23 against South Africa. The 30-year-old batter, once known for his prolific run-scoring, is currently struggling to regain his form. His last international century came against Nepal in 2023.
