De Villiers is Returning to the Field After Retirement

Protea legendary batsman AB de Villiers is coming out of retirement and returning to the field. He had announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2021.

However, breaking that retirement, the former Protea captain will be back on the field in July.

The second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) will begin on July 18. Through this tournament, De Villiers will return to the field after four long years. On Tuesday, January 28, he announced his comeback through a video message on his Facebook page.

This tournament primarily features retired players and cricketers who are not under any cricket board contracts. De Villiers will lead the team representing South Africa in this competition.

In a video message, he said,
“Four years ago, I retired from all forms of cricket because I didn’t feel the need to play anymore. A lot of time has passed since then, and now my son has also started playing cricket. We play together in the garden, and I feel that there is still some fire left in me. So, I’m returning to the gym and the nets, preparing for the WCL in July.”

Despite being in great form, De Villiers retired from international cricket in November 2021. Now, after four years, he is making his return. His team is named “Game Changers South Africa Champions.” The team will also feature cricket legends Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs, Dale Steyn, and Imran Tahir.
