At the Ekana Sports City of Lucknow, South Africa seemed to have broken through all layers of Australian defense. Australia decided to bowl first after winning the toss, but the decision made no difference, as South Africa scored 311 anyway. With one win in its pouch, South African batters displayed superior confidence throughout their innings. Thanks to Quinton de Kock’s 109 (106) and Markham’s 56 (44), the Proteas managed to score 311 within 50 overs.

In response, Australia collected only 177 runs in their search for a much-needed comeback today. After their disastrous defeat against India, it was Australia’s moment to shine. However, it seems like the Aussies will have to sit empty-handed till their next match against Sri Lanka on October 16th. Except for Marnus Labuschagne’s painfully slow 46 runs out of 76 balls, no other Aussie batter stood any chance against the clean sweep from Kagiso Rabada (3/33) and Keshav Maharaj (2/30).

Quinton de Kock received the Player of the Match trophy for his brilliant 109 runs innings. The Protea bagged his second century of CWC 2023 today. The South African top-order batting lineup looks impenetrable at this moment. Their next match is against the Netherlands on October 17th. While South Africa may break its semifinal curse this tournament, Australia must revise its entire gameplan for this South Asian soil. On the other hand, South Africa is continuously surprising even the best of cricket pundits.
