India wrecks England’s World Cup Journey

In the 29th match of CWC 2023 at Lucknow, India managed to defend a vulnerable target of 230 while completely crushing the English batting lineup. Initially, India suffered some blows from English bowlers Willey, Woakes, and Adil. All looked perfect for England as they were able to pack India within a very vulnerable 229 runs. Rohit Sharma’s 87 runs kept India safe from falling below the 200 mark. Other than that, the rest of the Indian batting lineup had nothing to offer.

However, India soon demonstrated their bowling strength by restricting England to a mere 129 runs. Bairstow and Dawid’s mediocre opening performance set a slow pace for the following batters. Under pressure, Joe Root (0/1) & Ben Stokes(0/10) could not add anything to the scoreboard. Soon, the rest of the English middle order fell in front of Mohammed Shami & Jasprit Bumrah’s surgical bowling attack. After the dust settled, England left the pitch with 129 runs, a clear 100 runs behind the target.

After losing this very attainable opportunity today, England’s World Cup journey seems all but over. Up next, India will face a thriving Sri Lanka, while England will meet their century old rival Australia.
