At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium of Bengaluru, David and Marsh held off the Pakistani bowling aggression for 33 Overs. The duo produced 259 runs before finally heading for the dressing room. The remaining Aussie batting lineup contributed 104 runs over the next 17 overs. Shaheen Afridi’s 5-54 prevented Australia from reaching the estimated 400’s territory.
In response, Pakistan showed promising efforts with Abdullah and Imam’s fantastic opening partnership of 134 runs. However, the middle and lower-order Pakistani batters failed to stay steady on the pitch, resulting in frequent wicket falls. Zampa’s 4-53 further destabilized the Pakistani batting order. Consequently, Pakistan ended up with 305 runs on the board with almost 5 Overs left in hand, leaving the Aussies victorious by 62 runs.
Player of the Match title went to David Warner for his impressive innings of 163 runs out of 124 balls. Both the David-Warner and Imam-Abdullah pairs broke some records yesterday at Bengaluru. David and Warner’s 259 runs partnership is now the highest for Australia in the entire CWC ODI history. At the same time, Imam and Abdullah’s 134 runs partnership is the highest against Australia by any Pakistani opening pair in a CWC ODI.
