Innings Review: India

Upon winning the toss, Aussie captain Pat Cummins decided to bowl first against the supposedly strong Indian batting lineup. However, his gameplan soon started to take effect as the reputed Aussie bowlers dismantled India’s top order early on. Visibly stressed Shubman Gill fell early to Starc’s short ball. Rohit & Kohli then created a 46 runs partnership to fulfill their role. Soon after, Rohit, Iyer & Kohli all fell within a team total of 148 runs. KL Rahul & Kohli’s slow but somewhat strong partnership of 67 runs indicated a possibility of them hitting 280-300 territory.

Unsurprisingly, they broke down under pressure and failed to mount anything significant. After Kohli’s departure, KL Rahul held off till a team total of 203 runs. After 49.6 Overs, India collected 240 runs for all 10 wickets.

Innings Review: Australia

In response to such a mere target of 240 runs, the Australian top-order entered the field with all the confidence they needed. However, the ever-aggressive Indian bowling lineup soon dumped Warner, Marsh & Smith within 47 runs. Just as the Shami-Siraj & Bumrah trio sought another wicket, Travis Head & Labuschagne settled in slowly. This duo yielded a 192-run match-winning partnership. Seeing the hopelessness of the situation, the crowd went silent. Amidst the erratic hush enveloping the Narendra Modi Stadium, Travis’ bat broke the inconsistent silence with its unwavering resonance. Travis & Labuschagne’s methodical display of batting skit slowly sailed the Aussie ship to victory.

After the hopeless dismissal of Aussie hero Travis Head at 42.5 Overs, Australia needed 2 runs to make history. At the last ball of the 43rd Over, Glenn Maxwell’s shot at the deep square leg finished the job. Australia now holds the world record of winning six Men’s Cricket World Cup titles. As expected, Travis Head obtained the Player of the Match title for his historic innings of 137 runs in 120 balls.  Australia won with 6 wickets & 42 balls remaining at hand.
