Starting off, Pakistan headed to bat first after winning the toss. Babar Azam & Abdullah’s respective innings of 74 and 58 catapulted Pakistan to a team total of 282 runs. Aside from them, Shadab and Iftikhar scored identical 40s to finish off in a decent posture. Noor Ahmed dismissed the top and middle-order batters while Naveen-ul-Haq took out Shadab and Iftikhar, denying Pakistan from reaching the 300 mark.
With a challenging target of 283 runs ahead, Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim (87) yielded a partnership of 130 runs. Pakistani bowlers appeared helpless, unable to break the partnership. Endless boundaries from the duo exhausted the Pakistani bowlers. Even after their departure from the pitch, Rahmat (77) and Hashmat (48) led the Afghans to victory.

This is the 8th ODI encounter between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Previously, Pakistan won every single ODI. However, the Afghans have managed to break the streak and make it 7-1 in a spectacular show of batting excellence. With their second win of the CWC 2023, Afghanistan now occupies 6th place on the point table directly below Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan is left with almost no hope of recovery.
