New Zealand’s former all-rounder Corey Anderson has earned a spot in the United States national cricket team. The United States has announced a squad of 15 members for the upcoming five-match T20 series against Canada to be played at home next month, including Anderson.
Anderson achieved international acclaim with New Zealand through T20 cricket in 2012. In 2018, he played his last international match for New Zealand. Failing to secure a place in the national team, Anderson moved to the United States in 2020.
Anderson spent three years there to gain citizenship, acquiring US citizenship last year. In Minor League Cricket in the US, he scored more than 485 runs in 28 innings with a strike rate of over 146. With outstanding performances, the 33-year-old Anderson earned an opportunity to play for the United States.
Apart from Anderson, cricketers like Harmeet Singh from India, Milind Kumar, and former captain Nitish Kumar from Canada have also secured a place in the United States team for the T20 series against Canada.
After facing Canada in May, the United States will play a three-match series against Bangladesh as part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup. These matches are scheduled for May 21, 23, and 25. Meanwhile, the United States will compete against Canada from April 7 to 13.
In the ‘A’ group of the World Cup, the United States is placed alongside India, Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada.
