The Bangladesh cricket team has arrived in the USA to participate in the T20 World Cup. Before the World Cup begins, the Tigers are scheduled to play a three-match T20 series against the host USA on May 21, 23, and 25, with all matches set to start at 9 PM Bangladesh time.
On Friday, at 4 AM Bangladesh time, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team landed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. Upon arrival, they encountered a storm, casting doubt over the series against the USA.
Most cricket facilities in the USA, including Houston’s Prairie View Cricket Complex, are temporary. The series was to be held at this venue starting Tuesday. However, the severe storm has devastated the temporary structures at the ground, raising concerns about the series proceeding as planned.
ESPN Cricinfo’s USA correspondent Peter Della Penna posted a picture on his ‘X’ account, stating, “There is doubt about the Bangladesh-USA series scheduled to start on May 21 due to a severe storm that hit Houston on Thursday. Most of the temporary structures at the Prairie View Cricket Complex have been destroyed.”
According to US media reports, the storm, with winds reaching 75 miles per hour, has wrecked most of the temporary infrastructure at Prairie View Cricket Complex (PVC), including dugouts and VIP tents.
The players’ dugouts, VIP tents, sight screens, and all other temporary structures have been destroyed. Even the practice nets have been completely damaged.
The stands set up for broadcasting purposes have also been blown away by the storm. Given this situation, hosting the three-match T20 series between Bangladesh and the USA at this venue is now uncertain.
