The second edition of the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup is set to begin in Malaysia. On the opening day of the tournament, Saturday (January 18), the Young Tigresses will face Nepal.
The match is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM Bangladesh time. Bangladesh’s representatives in red and green aim to kick off their World Cup campaign with a victory.
In December, Bangladesh became the runners-up in the Women’s U-19 T20 Asia Cup after losing to India in the final. This time, the team is confident about performing well in the T20 World Cup. Before leaving the country, team captain Sumaiya Akter stated, “We want to progress match by match. Our team is very strong. We know our strengths, and if we give our best, we hope for positive results.”
In 2023, the inaugural Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup was held in South Africa with 16 teams. This time, 16 teams will again participate in four groups. Bangladesh has been placed in Group D alongside Australia, Nepal, and Scotland.
After their first match against Nepal, Bangladesh will play Australia on January 20 and Scotland on January 22. Among their group matches, Australia poses the biggest challenge for Bangladesh.
This year, the top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage. The top two teams from each of the two Super Six groups will secure a spot in the semifinals. The semifinals are scheduled for January 31, followed by the final on February 2.
