The Bangla Tigers, led by Shakib Al Hasan, began their Abu Dhabi T10 League campaign with a loss. In the second match of the tournament, which started on Thursday, the Tigers were defeated by Samp Army by six wickets.
Shakib, the captain of the Bangla Tigers, claimed two wickets in the match.
After losing the toss, the Bangla Tigers batted first and posted 106 for 1 in their 10 overs. Sri Lankan batter Dasun Shanaka was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 62 off just 27 balls, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes.
Afghanistan opener Hazratullah Zazai contributed 35 not out off 26 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six. The Tigers’ other opener, UAE’s Lukman Fayaz, was dismissed for 5 runs. Zazai and Shanaka then stitched together an unbroken 85-run partnership off 43 balls for the second wicket. As a result, Shakib didn’t get a chance to bat.
In reply, Samp Army chased down the target with three balls to spare. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis scored 29, while England’s Jack Taylor remained unbeaten on 27.
Shakib bowled impressively, picking up 2 wickets for 15 runs in his 2 overs, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Bangla Tigers.
