Acknowledged in T20 cricket, Pakistan’s star batsman set the record for the fastest 10,000 runs, surpassing the record of Caribbean star Chris Gayle.
In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), on Wednesday (February 21), against Karachi Kings, he achieved this feat with an innings of 72 runs off 51 balls. Leading under the shadow of Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, he averaged 7 fours and 1 six in the second innings. Babar reached 10,000 runs in T20 cricket in 271 innings. Gayle, the previous record holder, took 285 innings. He achieved this milestone in three innings less than only Virat Kohli. The Indian star took 299 innings. Babar became the 13th player in the world and the second Pakistani cricketer to reach the milestone of 10,000 runs.
He stands atop everyone with 14,562 runs in 455 innings. Before batting against Peshawar on Wednesday, Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik had scored 13,159 runs in 494 innings.
With 9,994 runs, Babar played this match. He got out as the seventh batsman in the eighteenth over, leaving the team’s score at 147. With one ball left in Peshawar’s innings, he was all out at 154 runs. Without Babar, only two others could score in double digits. Rovman Powell scored 39 off 25 balls, and Asif Ali scored 23 off 16 balls.
Babar, performing superbly for Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), came to play in the PSL in the country. In the first match, against Quetta Gladiators, he scored 68 runs off 42 balls. Falling short of the target of 207 runs, his team lost the match by 16 runs. He came out of the next match without a fifty from his bat.
