Former captain Shahin Shah Afridi has been creating a buzz with his association, but Pakistan captain Babar has denied it. He has stated that we support each other in any situation.
Babar stood down from Pakistan’s captaincy across all formats after last year’s World Cup. Since then, Shahn Masood led in Tests, and Afridi took charge in T20Is.
In January of this year, Afridi led the team in a five-match T20I series in New Zealand. Pakistan lost the series 4-1.
There’s a wind of change in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Babar takes responsibility as captain for Pakistan’s revival in white-ball cricket. However, there’s unrest between Babar and Afridi. Babar has dismissed all such rumors.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand, Babar said, “I want to make one thing clear: my relationship with Afridi is not new. It’s very old. We support each other every moment. Our goal is to keep Pakistan in the forefront and elevate its name. We don’t think about personal success. Unfortunately, there’s nothing like that in my team.”
He further stated, “I always believe that performance keeps everyone in the team. When there’s a lot of talent, it becomes difficult to pick the best eleven. We’ll try our best for Pakistan. The preparation for the World Cup starts with this series.”
