Australia pulled off a remarkable comeback to win the Bridgetown Test in just three days, despite being bowled out for only 180 runs in their first innings against West Indies.
Although they managed to restrict the West Indies to 190 with excellent bowling, the Aussies were still trailing. From there, they staged a brilliant turnaround and secured the victory within three days.
Pat Cummins’ team now leads the three-match series 1-0 after defeating the West Indies by a margin of 159 runs.
Starting their second innings 10 runs behind, Australia were struggling at 65 for 4. But a century partnership between Travis Head and Beau Webster revived the innings. Later, Alex Carey pushed the score close to 300.
Head scored 61, Webster 63, and Carey contributed 65 runs. Australia were eventually all out for 310 in the second innings. Shamar Joseph took 5 wickets for 87 runs.
West Indies were set a target of 301 runs to win. However, Josh Hazlewood’s destructive bowling dismantled the Caribbean side for just 141 runs in 33.4 overs.
West Indies lost 8 wickets for just 86 runs. If not for the resistance from Justin Greaves and Shamar Joseph towards the end, the defeat could have been even more severe.
Joseph played a quickfire T20-style innings of 44 off 22 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes. Greaves remained unbeaten on 38.
Hazlewood claimed 5 wickets for 43 runs for Australia.
