The Under-19 World Cup 2024 in the final, India lost to Australia by 79 runs. On Sunday (February 11), Australia decided to bat after winning the toss in Benoni. Initially, batting first, they lost 7 wickets and managed to score 253 runs in 50 overs.
Harjas Singh scored 55 runs off 64 balls for the team. Additionally, Harry Dickson, who had been consistent with the bat throughout the tournament, scored 42 runs off 56 balls. Raj Limbani took 3 wickets for India, while Namit Tiwari took 2 wickets.
Chasing the target of 254 runs, India faced a setback right from the start. Within 68 runs, the Indian batsmen lost 4 wickets. However, Priyanshu Mali tried to lead the fightback with 47 runs off 21 balls, partnered by Adarsh Singh.
Despite their efforts, when both batsmen were out at 90 and 91 runs respectively, India’s hopes in the match diminished significantly. Although Murugan Ashwin contributed with a fighting half-century, he lost his wicket at a crucial juncture.
Eventually, with Soumya Panda’s dismissal as the last batsman, India was all out for 174 runs in 43 overs and 5 balls.
