Australia declined to play the bilateral series against Afghanistan again

Australia has once again canceled the series against Afghanistan. According to ICC FTP, there was a schedule of three T20 matches between Afghanistan and Australia at a neutral venue in August. However, Australia declined to play the bilateral series against Afghanistan again.

Cricket Australia announced the postponement of the series through a press release.

Among the full members of the ICC, Afghanistan is the only country without a women’s cricket team. They believe Cricket Australia is abandoning cricket due to the Afghan government’s deteriorating human rights situation for women and girls. Therefore, after consultation with their government, they decided to postpone the series.

Cricket Australia stated in the statement, “We have prioritized our previous stance and will postpone the bilateral series against Afghanistan. Cricket Australia has made a firm commitment to women’s cricket participation worldwide and will actively engage with the ICC on this matter. Cricket Australia will work closely with the Afghanistan Cricket Board to determine what steps can be taken to reschedule bilateral matches in the future.”

For the same reason, Australia withdrew from the Test match in 2021 and the ODI series in 2023 against Afghanistan. Although the two teams had faced each other in the T20 and ODI World Cups.
