In the Rajkot Test, Ashwin won’t play anymore. India will play with 10 players. The third Test of the India-England series is underway in Rajkot. There had been discussions since the eventful second day. Now, for a new reason, he has withdrawn himself due to family reasons. Earlier, Ashwin was in discussion for running in the middle of the pitch. The umpires penalized India with five runs for his offense. On the same day, this Indian spinner took his 500th wicket in Test cricket.
However, the matter of the 37-year-old cricketer leaving the team before the three days remaining in the Test has been ensured by the BCCI. In tough times, the BCCI is standing by Ashwin. The BCCI informed in a media release on Friday night, “Due to family reasons, Ashwin has withdrawn himself from the Test squad. In challenging times, the BCCI is by Ashwin’s side, and the entire team supports Ashwin.”
The BCCI has expressed sincere support for Ashwin’s family by acknowledging him as a champion cricketer, “The health of players and their loved ones is extremely important. The board respects Ashwin and his family’s privacy. They are overcoming challenging times.”
The release further states, “The board and the team will keep all kinds of support intact for Ashwin and maintain uninterrupted communication to provide assistance as needed. Team India hopes for responsible behavior from spectators and supporters during such times.”
As a result, India will now have to play with ten players in this Test. The five-match series is now tied at 1-1.
