The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Pakistani legend Shahid Khan Afridi as the brand ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
On Friday, the cricket governing body announced his name as the World Cup brand ambassador. Following this, Pakistan’s former captain named the four teams he believes are the potential semifinalists in the T20 World Cup.
Afridi was one of the world’s best all-rounders during his cricket career. He expressed his happiness at being honored by the ICC.
This year’s World Cup will be held in the West Indies and the United States. Many former cricketers have selected four teams from the 20 participating nations as the potential semifinalists, providing their reasoning.
Now, the T20 World Cup brand ambassador has also chosen his four teams, based on his logic, that he thinks will make it to the semifinals. Afridi has included his own country, Pakistan, in the list. Additionally, he believes the remaining three semifinalists could be India, Australia, and New Zealand.
Afridi did not include the last tournament’s champion England or one of the hosts, the West Indies, in the race for the semifinals. The former Pakistan captain said, “I think Pakistan’s team should play in the final this time. It seems India and Australia will make it to the semifinals. Given the conditions where the World Cup will be held, these two countries will have an advantage. Besides, New Zealand has a good chance.” Afridi chose his potential four semifinalists considering the team strengths and the nature of the pitches in the West Indies and the United States.
After Usain Bolt and Yuvraj Singh, Afridi has been chosen by the ICC as the third brand ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Afridi played a significant role in Pakistan’s success in T20 cricket. He was part of the team that reached the final for the first time in 2007. Although they lost to India in the final that year, Afridi was named the best player of the tournament.
Afridi was also part of the Pakistan team that won the T20 World Cup the following year. He was the man of the match in the semifinal against South Africa and the final against Sri Lanka.
