Pakistan is the host of the Champions Trophy. As per the rules, in ICC tournaments, the host country’s name is displayed below the logo on the jersey.
Following this rule, the jerseys of all the participating countries in the Champions Trophy will bear the name “Pakistan.” However, the BCCI initially opposed including “Pakistan” on India’s Champions Trophy jersey.
The PCB objected to this and sought ICC’s intervention. A PCB official commented on the matter, saying, “The BCCI is bringing politics into cricket. They didn’t want to come to Pakistan to play, nor are they willing to send their captain for the opening ceremony. Now we hear they don’t want to include the host country’s name on the jersey either. We hope the ICC won’t approve such a reckless decision.”
Subsequently, under ICC’s intervention, the BCCI softened its stance and agreed to include “Pakistan” on India’s jersey. The new BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, confirmed that they would follow ICC’s regulations while designing the Champions Trophy jersey.
Saikia told the media, “We will follow the guidelines provided by the ICC (for jersey design).” When asked, “In ICC tournaments, the host country’s name is written below the logo on the jersey. What will the BCCI do?” Saikia reiterated, “We will act according to ICC’s instructions.”
The Champions Trophy is set to begin in Karachi on February 19.
