The 2025 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, regarded as the most prestigious recognition in world cricket, has been published.
In this year’s list, India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana have been named among the world’s best cricketers. In the T20 format, West Indies’ explosive batter Nicholas Pooran has been selected as the Cricketer of the Year.
These recognitions are not based solely on statistics but also consider the players’ impact, match-winning performances, and consistency.
West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has been named the T20 Cricketer of the Year. His outstanding strike rate, ability to build innings in big matches, and consistent finishing skills earned him this award. In 2024, he was unstoppable in both international and franchise cricket.
Meanwhile, based on performances during England’s summer season, the five cricketers selected are:
Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith, Dan Worrall, Liam Dawson, and Sophie Ecclestone (from the England Women’s team). A player can receive this honor only once in their lifetime.
England’s legendary pacer James Anderson, who retired with 704 wickets over a 21-year-long Test career, received a special honor.
New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner received the “Wisden Trophy for Performance of the Year” for his match-winning performance of taking 13 wickets in the second Test against India.
Additionally, posthumous tributes were paid to two English cricket legends, Derek Underwood and Graham Thorpe, who passed away last year.
