Mystery Spinner in India’s ODI Squad

Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has secured a place in India’s ODI squad.

Varun had an impressive performance in the five-match T20 series against England, taking 14 wickets with an economy rate below 10. The English batsmen struggled against him throughout the series.

His ability to take wickets at any stage of the match was the primary reason for his selection in the ODI squad against England. If he performs well here, he might also earn a spot in the upcoming Champions Trophy squad.

With Varun’s inclusion, India now has five spinners in the ODI squad—Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Varun Chakravarthy. Four of them are expected to be selected for the Champions Trophy squad.

This is Varun’s first call-up to India’s ODI team. So far, he has played 23 List-A matches. In the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy, he took 18 wickets in six matches, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker.

Before heading to Dubai for the Champions Trophy, India will play a three-match ODI series against England on February 6, 9, and 12. The team has until February 11 to make any final changes to the Champions Trophy squad.
