As of May 9, 2025, both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have been significantly impacted due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
IPL 2025: Suspended Indefinitely
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the IPL 2025 season indefinitely amid rising military tensions following recent cross-border attacks. The suspension follows the abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala on May 8, which was halted midway due to air raid alerts and subsequent evacuations.
At the time of suspension, 58 matches had been completed, with 12 league-stage games remaining. Gujarat Titans were leading the points table, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. Top performers included Suryakumar Yadav (510 runs) and Noor Ahmad (20 wickets).
The BCCI has not yet announced if or when the tournament will resume. There is speculation about potentially relocating the remaining matches to a neutral venue like South Africa or rescheduling them later in the year.
PSL 2025: Relocated to UAE
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has moved the remainder of the PSL 2025 season to the United Arab Emirates due to security concerns. This decision was made after a suspected drone incident near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on May 8. Eight matches remain in the tournament, which was originally scheduled to conclude in Pakistan.
The PCB is coordinating with stakeholders to finalize the revised schedule for the matches in the UAE. The relocation aims to ensure the safety of players and officials amid the ongoing regional tensions.
