Virat Kohli was not having a good time with the bat. As a result, the top batter of his era had to endure criticism. Even the cricket board had taken a tough stance. Some had started saying that Kohli’s chapter might end with the upcoming Champions Trophy.
However, India’s legendary former captain Sourav Ganguly does not think so. According to him, Kohli still has a lot to contribute to cricket.
Kohli scored a century in the recent Perth Test during the Australia tour. It seemed like his drought of runs would finally end, and he would start scoring consistently again. But that didn’t happen. Once again, Kohli is struggling with failures. What could be the reason behind this? Ganguly spoke on this issue.
Speaking about Kohli, Ganguly said, “A cricketer like Virat Kohli is seen only once in a lifetime, just like Jhulan and Mithali. Scoring 80 centuries in international cricket is unbelievable. To me, he is the best white-ball player in the world.”
Commenting on Kohli’s recent form, Ganguly added, “After his century in Perth, I was truly amazed by the way he batted in Australia. He had been struggling to score runs here (in India) before that. But I thought the century in Perth would mark the beginning of a big series for him.”
He further added, “But things like this happen in cricket. I believe every player has their strengths and weaknesses. The important thing is how you adapt to your weaknesses.”
Addressing the criticism and talks of Kohli’s retirement, Ganguly said, “I still believe that Virat Kohli has a lot more to offer to cricket.”
