Bangladesh’s Sharmin nominated for ICC Player of the Month for November

Sharmin Akhter from Bangladesh has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award in the women’s category for November. Competing against her are South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk and England’s Danielle Wyatt-Hodge.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the shortlist for the best male and female cricketers of the month on Thursday, December 5.

In the men’s category, India’s pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, and South Africa’s Marco Jansen are in contention.

After a 16-month hiatus, Sharmin returned to international cricket late last month with an ODI series against Ireland. She played in the first two matches of the series, scoring 96 runs in the first and 43 runs in the second.

At the beginning of December, in the third and final match of the series, Sharmin scored 72 runs. Her significant contribution to Bangladesh’s 3-0 series victory over Ireland earned her the ICC Player of the Month nomination for November.

Last month, Nadine de Klerk scored 80 runs and took 4 wickets in a three-match T20I series against England. Despite her efforts, South Africa lost the series 3-0 at home.

England’s Wyatt-Hodge played a pivotal role in England’s T20I series win against South Africa, scoring a series-high 142 runs in three matches.

In the men’s category, Bumrah played just one Test last month. As the stand-in captain in Rohit Sharma’s absence, he led the team in the first Test against Australia during their tour. Alongside his leadership, Bumrah excelled with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 30 runs and 3 wickets for 42 runs in the two innings, contributing significantly to India’s 295-run victory.

Pakistan’s Haris Rauf took 13 wickets in six ODIs against Australia and Zimbabwe and 3 wickets in three T20Is against Australia last month, securing his spot in the race.

South Africa’s Marco Jansen played four T20Is against India and one Test against Sri Lanka at home. Against India, he scored 102 runs, including a half-century, and took 3 wickets.

The ICC Player of the Month is selected through a combined vote of the ICC Voting Academy and cricket fans. The Voting Academy consists of senior sports journalists, former cricketers, and commentators, with their votes accounting for 90% of the decision. The remaining 10% comes from fan votes.
