At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, it has become a routine for Sunrisers Hyderabad to unleash storms and wreak havoc since the last IPL.
However, this time, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad themselves who were left as mere spectators as Nicholas Pooran unleashed a tornado. His bat ruthlessly dismantled the home team’s bowlers, sending them to all parts of the ground with a barrage of boundaries. He played one of the most destructive innings in recent memory, making Hyderabad’s bowlers look helpless.
The Caribbean powerhouse was at the crease for approximately seven overs, facing 26 balls. That was all he needed to make an impact—smashing five sixes and five fours to score 70 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 270! The 40-over battle between the two teams practically ended right there.
Pooran has long been known for his power-hitting, frequently showcasing his ability in the IPL. However, this season, he appears more dangerous than ever, as if he is on a mission to single-handedly carry Lucknow Super Giants across the finish line. In the first match against Delhi Capitals, he played a similarly explosive innings, scoring 75 off just 30 balls, with six fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 250. Had Lucknow won that game, he would have undoubtedly been the match-winner, but Ashutosh Sharma’s heroics overshadowed his performance in the end.
Determined not to let that happen again, Pooran went all out against Hyderabad. In his previous match, he took 24 balls to reach his half-century, but this time, he smashed it in just 18 balls, setting the record for the fastest fifty of the season. His relentless pursuit of excellence is what makes him truly special.
The team management has placed immense trust in the matured and consistent Nicholas Pooran from the start. Previously utilized as a middle-order batter and finisher, he has now been given a full-time top-order role. He is making the most of this opportunity, and if he continues this form, this T20 maestro might well reign over the current IPL season.
